When the check engine light comes on, the best thing to do is take the car to your mechanic. They will plug in their reader to your OBDII port (all cars since the mid 90’s have these ports). Problems revealed can be as simple as a loose gas cap or more serious like a failing oxygen sensor or catalytic converter. Your mechanic can also check your fuel/air ratio along with important data like coolant temperature.
